Avoid These Three Things if You Have Just Had Teeth Whitening

You might have suddenly had the realization that your smile isn’t the brightest among your social circles. The discolouration is a common problem, and many people consider teeth whitening procedures to improve their looks and smile.

However, once you have had your teeth whitened, you should avoid certain food and other items, especially in the initial 48 hours after the procedure. We list a few ways to make the best of your teeth whitening treatment by abstaining from items that cause staining and discolouration.

1 – Avoid Dark Coloured Food

There is a range of food items that can alter the colour of your teeth. Some of those are dark sauces like pasta sauce and tomato sauce, coloured spices, like paprika, curry, turmeric, etc.), candies coated with chocolate and others like Skittles, M&Ms, etc.)

Also, avoid vegetables, fruits, and berries that are highly pigmented (e.g., tomatoes, beets, pomegranate, etc.)

2 - Avoid Coloured Beverages

Most people cannot begin their day without their morning cup of coffee or they might enjoy a glass of red wine in the evenings from time to time. Those beverages, though, cause staining in the teeth.

It would be better to choose non-staining alternatives, such as milk, white wine, clear alcohol, and water. However, if you must have your morning coffee, try drinking with a straw to avoid direct contact with your whitened teeth, and rinse right after.

3 - Cut Down on Tobacco Use

Tobacco doesn’t just cause serious harm to your health but also contributes to staining and discolouration.

Abstain from consuming tobacco or tobacco related products at least for the first couple of days after your teeth whitening treatment.
